Neighborhood Security
This is a guide to help you understand what, when and how you should report information to the Police Department.
Report these things in your neighborhood...
- A stranger entering your neighbor's house when it is unoccupied.
- Strangers or strange cars in the neighborhood, school, area or parks.
- A stranger carrying appliances, household goods or other bundles from your neighbor's home or yard.
- Person's loitering in secluded areas.
In business or commercial locations...
- Broken or open windows.
- Person's entering or leaving a business after hours.
- Person's displaying weapons such as guns, knives, etc.
- Person's walking down the street, looking into parked cars.
- Any vehicle parked by a business with the motor running.
Anywhere
- Person's who get out of the car and leave in another with apparent haste.
- Anyone removing accessories, license plates or fuel from a parked car.
- Person's involved in fighting.
- Any injured person you observe.
- Person's screaming.
- The sound of breaking glass or any loud explosive noises.
- Person's offering merchandise at ridiculously low prices. It may be stolen property.
How to report
When making a reporting call state that you want to report a suspicious person, vehicle, or activity at whatever the location is and a description of the person (persons), and or vehicle with license number if possible.Many conditions are such that immediate police assistance is not needed. You may want to document information on suspicious vehicles and persons in the area. This information can be passed on to the Crime Prevention Unit where it will be referred to the appropriate division for investigation.
If a situation is not one listed under 911 calls, please call your local law enforcement dispatcher.
